Our Health Centre is a health and wellness community resource. It is both a building and programs. OHC provides comprehensive health and wellness to the residents of the entire Municipality of the District of Chester (from Martin’s River, to and including all of the Blandford Peninsula, and inland to New Ross), the Hubbards area and the Tancook Islands. The broad vision for Our Health Centre is that of a welcoming, collaborative health facility where our community members can obtain health-related information and care and can be well-served in times of health or illness. We hope Our Health Centre will help the people in our region to live healthier lives.
Our Health Centre is owned and operated by the residents of our community. Within the building, the Nova Scotia Health Authority manages the primary health care practise, called the Chester Community Clinic at OHC as well as other NSHA program staff (public health, mental health and addictions, continuing care, blood clinic, specialists & diabetic clinics). Our Health Centre Association facilitates a wide range of other programs intended to foster health and wellness. Collaboration with the municipal recreation department’s healthy lifestyle activities forms an important aspect of OHC’s program delivery strategy. OHC also manages rental space for providers of services that complement and support existing primary health care services and are aligned with promoting health and wellness (such as osteopathy; clinical foot care; sleep clinic; hearing clinic; NS Works) and provides space for health care specialists, such as a pediatrician, plastic surgeon and others who may see patients from two to four times per month.
Our Health Centre Association’s most recent initiative is a Walk-in Clinic, which opened on April 6th, 2018. OHC decided to open a walk-in clinic to provide an option for the many residents of our communities currently without a family practice and for those who are seasonal residents. The Municipality of the District of Chester supported the project through a generous grant to assist with set up costs.
Our Health Centre is a not-for-profit registered charity, owned by the community for the community. Anyone in the community can become a member of the Association.
